Di Indonesia, Taman Nasional Komodo mencakup tiga pulau besar Komodo, Rinca dan Padar, serta banyak lagi pulau-pulau yang lebih kecil, dengan total luas 1.817 kilometer persegi (603 kilometer perseginya daratan). Taman nasional ditetapkan tahun 1980 untuk melindungi komodo.
Kemudian, taman nasional ini juga didedikasikan untuk melindungi spesies lain, termasuk hewan laut. Pulau-pulau taman nasional berasal dari kegiatan vulkanik.
